GOYA - Atlanta Snow

For several days local weather reports have been predicting snow in the Atlanta area. Original weather models stated 6-12 inches and got revised the closer we got to the weather event. Looks like we got about 4 inches in the city, probably a bit more to the north.

The city has basically shut down and everyone has been advised not to drive unless absolutely necessary. I wanted to roam various parts of the city and capture images of the city covered in snow. When I woke up this morning and saw the report on road conditions, I decided not to venture onto the roads. I suited up in my ski clothes and walked the neighborhood.

I walked down near the subdivision entrance and talked to one of my neighbors. He also said he wasn't venturing out. He was on his way home the night before and was in the middle of the mess on I-20. Luckily he got through it unscathed, but there were a lot of cars on the side of the road due to skidding on the ice.

I also took some pics of my house. It's not often that Atlanta gets snow and I wanted a couple shots of my first home with snow.

Here's a view of the back.

This shot gives you a better idea of how much snow fell in about 4 hours.

I took this shot from the inside. I could hear the sleet hitting my bedroom window this morning. This is the ice on the window. I liked the texture and shot it with a 50mm at ƒ/1.8. Aside from the wide shots of the house, all the images were shot with the 50mm ƒ/1.8.

I went to the main street outside the subdivision, just to check out road conditions. There were a couple cars that went by, but overall there wasn't any traffic. I stepped out to the middle of the road and could feel the ice under my feet. I was glad I decided not to drive around. I hope others decided to stay put. No reason to put yourself or others in harms way.

Looks like tomorrow will be just like today. If I can head out and take some more pics I will. If not, I'll stay home. The good news is that I'll be able to catch up on some blog posts.

Excellent set Dave. We got 16 inches of snow over the weekend in my West Michigan town. I did a lot of shooting during the sunrise and sunset, but I like how you incorporated everday life in your photographs.

Travis,
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I've learned from other more accomplished photographers that the images you take should tell a story. I guess even more so when you put a series of them on a blog. I guess that's why I have a great deal of respect for photojournalists.
